Cyme 2023 Centenarian-vine Grenache Barossa Valley
TASTING NOTES
Aromas of glacé cherries, juniper, and spiced rhubarb. Light upon entry, then building to concentrated red fruits and crunchy tannins due to the extended skin contact time. An earthiness from the ancient soils it was grown in, which is enhanced by extended lees and skin contact time. Softened and framed by judiciously used new French oak.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Hand-harvested | 20% whole-bunch fermentation | 48 days extended maceration | 12 months in French oak | 1200 bottles made
REVIEWS
96 points, Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"Gorgeously complex and engaging, the bouquet shows sweet plum, raspberry, dried herb, game and toasted almond characters, followed by a concentrated palate delivering plush texture and expansive mouthfeel. Tannins are ultra-fine and beautifully layered, making it structured yet velvety and flowing".
94 points, Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot
“Just 100 cases of this really exciting Barossa Grenache made. There was 20% whole bunch fermentation and 48 days extended maceration after which the wine spent a year in new French oak. The vines, which were planted in 1912, are from the south of the region. Unfiltered and unrefined, it offers soft and spicy red fruit notes, raspberries and a delightful strawberries and cream note. Supple and seductive this is persistent and well balanced with impressive length. Enjoy this well into the 2030s.”
